A useful FRP grating enquiry gives the supplier a clear picture of the installed product. A request for a quantity of grating can start a conversation; a marked drawing and a short specification let that conversation move toward a comparable offer.
The following checklist is a practical way to prepare your enquiry. Use it for a new installation or an existing platform replacement, and keep the latest drawing revision with every update.
Define the use and the supplied scope
Begin with a brief application description: a maintenance walkway, a process platform, a trench cover or another defined use. Identify the project location and explain whether you need full panels, fabricated panels, stair treads or a combination.
State whether the enquiry covers grating only or also fixing accessories. If an existing support frame will be reused, include its drawing or measured survey. Ask who will confirm the condition and adequacy of those supports before installation.
Provide dimensions and support information
For each panel, show its overall dimensions, location and support arrangement. Distinguish the clear unsupported distance from the overall panel length. Mark any holes, notches or access hatches, together with the proposed panel orientation.
Where dimensions are still being developed, label them as preliminary. This helps prevent a budget quotation from being mistaken for an approved fabrication drawing.
| Enquiry item | What to include |
|---|---|
| Drawing | Plan, panel references, dimensions, openings and revision |
| Supports | Clear span, bearing detail and available fixing locations |
| Loading | Uniform, concentrated or other required loads and their locations |
| Design criteria | Deflection limit and applicable project specification |
| Quantity | Number of each panel type and any required spare panels |
| Exposure | Process chemicals, concentration, temperatures and contact conditions |
| Finish | Surface texture, colour and any specified fire-performance criteria |
| Delivery | Destination, required delivery date and unloading constraints |
Describe the load rather than guessing a thickness
Give the supplier the design requirements agreed by the project engineer. Identify equipment access or concentrated loads separately from ordinary pedestrian use. If the project specification contains several operating conditions, attach the relevant sections.
Ask for a product recommendation supported by the applicable load and span information. Compare the recommendation with the approved drawing before confirming an order. Our molded versus pultruded comparison can help structure that discussion; it does not replace the project design review.
Include the operating environment
Describe outdoor exposure, wash-down routines and any chemicals that may contact the panels. Record concentrations and temperatures when they are known. If the operating information is incomplete, list the open questions so that the selection can be reviewed when those answers arrive.
The corrosive-environment guide provides a more detailed exposure checklist. When fire or smoke performance forms part of the project requirements, request the relevant documentation for the proposed product, including any phenolic grating option under consideration.
Ask for an itemised offer
Request a quotation that identifies the proposed molded or pultruded product, resin system, surface finish, quantities and fabrication scope. Have the supplier identify clips, packing, freight and documentation separately where they affect the purchasing decision.
Agree how revised drawings will be approved, how fabricated panels will be labelled and what inspection records are needed. Confirm the actual production and delivery schedule for the order instead of relying on a general website estimate.
Keep the approval trail simple
Before placing the order, bring the final quotation, panel schedule and approved drawings together. Resolve differences in quantity, dimensions or materials in writing. A short agreed record is easier to use on site than a long email chain with several conflicting attachments.
